The Endo-Calendar 2010
Annual calendar with interesting and unusual endodontic cases

„An entire calendar dedicated to root canal treatment? This must be something for just for freaks”. Maybe so, but on the other hand….?

The authors belong to a group of Endodontists who are always looking for new ways and improved treatment concepts. Their “obsession” unifies them in the endeavour to push the limits of feasible therapy in order to preserve natural teeth. They share their knowledge with colleagues in Germany and Europe and are highly motivated and enthusiastic about the possibilities of modern Endodontics. A small excerpt of their works is presented in this fourth edition of the endo-calendar.

What is the aim of the endo-calendar?

1. Exemplary information

Today every adult knows what a „root canal treatment“ is, and for many of them, it is connected with an unpleasant experience. However, what can be achieved with modern Endodontics is largely unknown to the public.

In these 12 pages, in landscape A2 format, fascinating cases are attractively presented and illustrated. They show new possibilities of tooth preservation based on current research.

2. Stimulating cooperation

Diagnostics and therapy are important focal-points in the every-day endodontic practice. Traditional and proven treatment methods allow long-term preservation of teeth with irreversible damage to the pulp. In the cases of microbial infected pulp necrosis or retreatment with a periapical inflammation reaction no satisfying treatment results have been achieved so far, either in Germany or internationally.

The case reports presented are based on the trusting cooperation between generalists and specialists in Endodontics. This kind of cooperation is essential for improving the quality of care for the patient at a time of ever increasing demands. It is intended for this calendar to encourage interdisciplinary cooperation. On request, the three professional associations DGZ/AGET (German Association for Conservative Dentistry/ Working Committee for Endodontology and DentalTraumatology), DGEndo (German Association for Endodontics) and VDZE (Association of German Certified Endodontologists) will provide the contact information of certified trained colleagues specialising in Endodontics.

3. Clear presentation

The endo-calendar presents unusual and interesting cases. By comparing the initial diagnostic findings with the final result, the specifics of each case are easily identified. The illustrations of the root canal systems show impressive details which are revealed under the dental operating microscope, and the brief description of each case facilitates the understanding of the essential treatment steps.

4. Competent information

The endo-calendar posted in the treatment room will assist the dentist to competently inform the patient and to show the characteristics of the root canal system. The patient will be better able to understand the role of the dental microscope which is able to reveal the smallest endodontic spaces and demonstrate the correction of a problematic situation, thus making the resulting higher costs transparent.

5. International exchange

On the occasion of their meetings all German and European professional associations offer trainings at the highest level. At the same time participants have the opportunity to get to know neighbouring countries and foreign cultures. The endo-calendar aims to promote professional exchange.
